The Deli gates and ' ttrir Depart ure. Our city has been full of folks from Pender, Columbus, Duplin and the other counties in this Congressional District for the last twenty -four hoars all dele gates to tbe convention to be heldin Fay etteville to-morrow for the purpose efnom iaating a candidate for Congressional hon ors. Two steamers left here this morning with tbe different delegates on board. The steamer ilrcfo"so7i,Capt.Garrason,of the Express Steamboat Line, started about half past nine with the Stedman delega tion on board, accompanied by the Cor net band from this city, which discoured soma excellent music as the Murchison steamed on up the river.- The A P. Hurt, Oaptf" Worth, of the Cape Fear and People's Steamboat Line, shoved off while the Murchison was passing and started iuhot pursuit. The last named steam er carried the McKoy delegates, we believe. Crowds of persons were drawn to the wharves to see 'both boats leave, and there were waving ot hand, kerchiefs and lifting of hats as each boat left its wharf. We judge that the dele gates on each boat will be made pretty comfortable during tho trip, and as far aa our observation extended, we are willing t3 assert tbttheylwi!f iaelrf or nothing during the passage between here and Fayetteville. We wi6h them all a jolly and a perfectly harmonious time. We want to hear of no discord in tbe Fayette viile Convention, and we earnestly hope that everything will be peaceful and hap py We want a good out-and-out Simon pure Democrat nominated, and than Hip, Uip.Hurrah, for the nominee of the Fayetteville Convention. "Them's our aentiments." A Sacred Kumber- To begin with, the number seven was by the Jews of old looked upon as being in a measure a sacred number." Tbe seV enth was the Sabbath, and that of course was'venerated as the day of rest; but bo sides that there was the week or period of seven years, during tbe last of which tbe earth was unworked, and left in a state oj repose.' Then, too, there was the time o1 seven weeks of seven years, or 49 years at the expiration of which came the great year of Jubilee. When visited by those wonderful visions which are iucorporated ia the Apocalypsj, tho exile of Patmos could not fail to hive notice!, as wo do now, the singular rcpetitiou of tbo num ber seven in the various phases of the Revelatiou. There werj tbe seven churches to which messages were sent, tbe seven golden candlesticks,- with their seven branches, the seven ever burn ing lamps,' while in the figurative description of Ihe last day, St. John is reported to have heard seven trumpets sounded, to have seen the seven Tails of tjrath poured out, the seven stars falling from heaven, to have watched the break - ing of the seven seals, and to have fiown iu aptrlf with' the seven executing angels. In the days when holocausts were looked upon a3 a pertinent form of religion, the number seten wai not overlooked. Thus Job's friends otfereu a sacrifice. David, at the time of the translation of the ark of t'&9 covenant immolated the '.same nnmber of victims; and Abraham offered a sacrifice of seven iheep 'when makiog an alliance with Pnnce Abimeltch, and eicLiiiar jostances miht be, caaltiplied without eud. By the by, the chief Ira iitish feasti of Passover and Pentacost are aeparatel an interval of seven weeks. For bargains ia clothing and gents' fufnisbirfg goods call on MessrsA. & I.
